What is a certificate?

An academic credential that is awarded when a student successfully completes a program, consisting of several courses.

Certificate programs are smaller than degree programs, and they relate to specific jobs or skills. They can be at the undergraduate level or the graduate level, and some can be earned along with a degree.

Some examples are Historic Preservation, Security Studies, Assessment/Evaluation. A college may offer a certificate as well as a major or minor in the same field.
